Sketching Portfolio
The world beckons. An artist learns to see the world with unique eyes and experiences it differently than other people do. So, the sketchbook is the soul and the brain of the artist exposed on paper. It is a very relaxed way to practice art and, because of that, a perfect laboratory for experimentation. It contains a visual story of an artist’s journey full of wonder, hope, struggle, reflection, frustration, growth, confidence, and transformation.
I carry a sketchbook and a pen/pencil in my bag at all times in case a quick sketching opportunity arises. Sometimes, I keep my ‘essentials’ watercolor kit with me as well—12 colors hacked into a mint tin, a brush, rag, and a small water jar—just in case I have more time to paint. My sketchbook has come with me to games, concerts, schools, piano lessons, taekwondo, restaurants, parks, the beach, and many other places. I also use it to practice techniques and test out ideas.
On days when I actually plan properly to paint on location, I take additional items such as: a 16-color travel palette, multiple sketchbooks, an assortment of drawing tools, a stool, and sometimes even a folding easel.
