Supriya Kharod:
Contemporary Watercolor Artist

Supriya lives in Austin, TX and paints exclusively in watercolor. She loves the unpredictability of the water-based medium, and it has greatly impacted how she lives her life:

“Watercolor is considered the underdog of the art world. But really, it’s a rich, transparent medium that gives off a ‘glowing-with-light’ effect when handled skillfully. Many oil and acrylic painters are intimidated by it, because it can’t be controlled in the same way. For me, it’s the opposite... I strive to showcase the beautiful ‘friendship’ between water and color, by relinquishing control and allowing the painting to reveal itself. Watercolor has taught me to let go trying to control everything around me. And as a result, I have gained greater control over myself.”

Supriya paints with a confident, highly-stylized vibe that is influenced by her graphic design background. Some recurring themes in her paintings are: the Texas landscape, iconic landmarks of Austin, people, and anything that reflects her Indian heritage. She is also a self-published author and a black belt in taekwondo. Read more >
